about

Recorded Live at the Grotto in Bastrop, TX, Halloween Night, 1999. This was the final show of Smurf Riot. The band was only in existence with this lineup and name for about a year, and just before this performance had finished work on a 5 song demo at Hound Down Sound Recording, in Paige, Tx, a now-defunct private studio.

Only about 20 copies of that ep were ever pressed, and to the knowledge of the former band members, none are known to still exist in circulation. After the passing of the studio's owner, the master was somehow lost. Therefore, this live recording is the Only known extant record of the band. It includes the entire (short) set from the show, but not all of the songs that the band commonly played.

Vocals: George "Astro" Boswell IV
Guitar: Josh "The Animal" Boatright
Bass and awkward screeches: Edward Harvey

Recorded by Michael "Ace" Johnson on a cheap-ass VHS Camcorder.
Digitally Mixed and Remastered by George "Astro" Boswell at Gestalt Sound Production, Belton, Tx, July 2014.

All songs written by Smurf Riot except Some Kind of Hate, which was written by Glenn Danzig (please don't sue us Glenn, we love you!!)

Much thanks to Ace for preserving and giving his only copy of this to me so many years ago, and to Brian McNaspy for creating the Grotto and generously hosting our final show. Also thanks to all the people who helped to make Smurf Riot the fun, crazy, and ultimately doomed band it was. Here's to the times we had, my brothers.
